Tuesday, August 5th
Morning Registration and check-in for all Participants
- Location: Mammoth Lakes Park and Ride Lot 101 Old Mammoth Road, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546. If traveling on HWY 203 into Mammoth, make a left turn on Old Mammoth Road then a quick left onto Tavern Rd. The parking lot is located immediately on the right.
- Time: 8am-9am
Morning - Field Trip
Water Quality MonitoringWater from the Mammoth Lakes Basin is the summit source for the landscape, wildlife, and people living from Mammoth south to San Diego. This field trip is a short hike to the water source where you become a citizen scientist to understand the basic parameters of healthy water quality. Kids will become “scientists for a day” and will be led in games demonstrating the challenge of water conservation and quality.

- Time: 9am-12pm
- Leader: Friends of the Inyo
- Difficulty: Advance trail and a Beginner trail option
- Cost: Free with all packages

Afternoon – Field Trip
Renewable Energy in a VolcanoGain insight into energy efficiencies and find out about Mammoth’s unique energy sources. Have the opportunity to experience geothermal heat on a short walk along Mammoth’s Hot Creek by seeing the heat come from the ground.

- Time: 2pm-4pm
- Leader: USGS/USFS/High Sierra Energy Foundation
- Difficulty: Beginner trail

Evening - Film
Grocery Store Wars and Energy Crossroads
A fun, short film geared for kids will be followed by a thought provoking film watched under the night sky and in the mountain air of The Village at Mammoth. Prior to the films, a brief presentation by the Mammoth High School Government class’ project to ban plastic bags in the community as well as the Town of Mammoth’s efforts to reduce the community’s carbon footprint.

Wednesday, August 6th
Morning - Field Trip
Ambassadors of the EnvironmentThe family will have the opportunity to see the wonder of nature and develop knowledge of and respect for the environment. While showing how people depend on and impact the natural environment, the trip will inspire adults and youth alike to protect natural resources and to live in an environmentally responsible manner. The goal of this trip is to empower young people with the knowledge and resources to become Ambassadors of the Environment in their communities, advocating and promoting sustainable living. Children will be designated “Ambassadors of the Environment” (with certificate and everything) after completing 3 easy and fun tasks.

Afternoon – Field Trip
Sustainable living amongst regionsLearn the connection between nature’s resources and how the actions in Mammoth affect the ecosystem. The region’s local native people have understood the connection for thousands of years. Adventure into nature with them and learn how they lived sustainably in a mountain environment. Kids will enjoy games and get a treat learning about how the native’s lived without some things we take for granted!

- Location: Buses from Town Park and Ride Lot to Casa Diablo and Mammoth Creek
- Time: 1pm-3pm
- Leader: Native People
- Difficulty: Beginner trail
- Cost: Free with all packages

Evening - Cocktail Party
Spend some one-on-one time with Jean-Michel Cousteau,environmental leaders in Mammoth and other interested festival attendees discussing issues and solutions? Join us for cocktails, appetizers and the opportunity to expand your knowledge while raising funds for “Friends of the Inyo”.

- Time: 5pm-6pm
- Leader: Committee
- Cost: Included in Mountain Package

Evening - Dinner
Enjoy an evening in the open air with food, conversation andkeynote speaker Jean-Michel Cousteau who shares his experience and knowledge of the world’s various ecosystems and the important role that Mammoth’s environment plays to sustain our planet. Kids will embark on a nighttime nature scavenger hunt complete with prizes!

- Time: 6pm-8pm

- Cost: Included in Lake and Mountain Packages

On going aspects that will be incorporated into each field trip
- Forest Etiquette & Responsibility – Guides will pass on local knowledge
- California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights – Credit will be given to children in accomplishing these Rights.
- Clean up of trails, lakes, and creeks – Trash bags on each field trip
